Isle of Wight and back in 90 minutes

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, with a gorgeous blue sky and no clouds on the horizon, we took a trip to the Isle of Wight – by plane. This day will imprint itself upon the history of 2012 as being the point when summer finally hit, although it didn’t last very long, after all this is England! From above, with people chilling out in the sun, enjoying bike rides, burgers and bikinis, the world looks relaxed and worry free. As the sun kept shining and the wind kept blowing, with my mate Dan at the controls, we headed west to the Isle of Wight, admiring the beauty from above.

If you are interested in pleasure flights or flying lessons please get in touch.

Me at work, trying not to get sucked out of the plane…

Chasing some boats along the way…

The Needles, Isle of Wight – needs to be seen from above to appreciate its beauty.

This is where it ends, well it wasn’t our choice but with fuel running low, we thought we’d better land. With a great day behind us and happy memories, off we went to the pub for refuelling!

Spectacular colors. Your photos make the landscapes and seascapes look alive and fresh. When I was a teenager I often accompanied my dad while he took aerial photographs from a helicopter. It’s a whole other art in itself.

    • Juraj says:

Many thanks. There’s something nice about seeing the world go by from above. I would take a helicopter any time for aerial shots – this was done from a Cessna with an open window and flying at around 100mph it’s not the easiest but it’s a great fun! 🙂

  21. joshi daniel says:

One of the delights of blogging is that you never know what to expect when you return a visit. But I really didn’t expect to find beautiful photos of somewhere so familiar to me!

  24. Randle says:

Stunning. On a great day, there’s no place like home! I absolutely loved the post. Some of the RYA and Admiralty reference books could do with buying some of your content! Thank you

  26. Beautiful scenery! I’m most drawn to the shots that make the familiar abstract– for example, the speedboat racing across the open ocean (#7) as well as #13, 15 among others. Beautiful post, thanks for stopping by the LoveMore blog and showing some love~ Jason

Cheers April and you’re right – on a good day it is great but unfortunately the weather’s pathetic most of the time 😦

  33. WOW, great shots!

  34. Is that a pool on the little circular island (with a lighthouse)? Rather funny if so, with all that lovely water about!
    Wonderful shots, indeed!

    • Juraj says:

Yes it is – it’s called Spitbank Fort and it’s a sea fort built as a result of the 1859 Royal Commission. The fort is one of four located in the Solent, near Portsmouth, England.

  35. Super! 🙂

    Ciao, Greta

053 you flew over my old house in Bembridge IoW which I left for Spain 10 years ago. Thanks for the memories, Lovely shots 🙂

  41. Some great shots!

  42. writecrites says:

Wonderful viewpoint from up there. As a photographer I appreciate novel views, but I was wondering, are you shooting through a window? If so, you did a great job of eliminating most of the glare. I once went up in a biplane over the San Juan Islands, Washington state, and there were no windows—the best way to shoot.
Also, mahalo (thank you in Hawaiian) for stopping by my blog and for the like.

    • Juraj says:

Many thanks Jennifer. All the shots were taken from Cessna Skyhawk with an open window – great fun in summer but not so much in winter flying at almost 100 miles per hour in freezing temperature 🙂 Some of the aerial shots in Hawaii were taken from a helicopter through the window.

  43. George Vagabon says:

Breathtaking, felt I was up there with you. Really enjoyed the Ticket to Ryde!

  44. Teju says:

How beautiful, how beautiful… I wished to be in there too 🙂 It is so exciting… I was in UK during summer vacation, it’s been two years. Bournemouth, the city of my beautiful memories, we visited again after many years then… But I know Brighton too, when I was young I stayed there for weekend. I love UK, wonderful country and has an amazing landscape… and beautiful people… You almost took me to my memories now, with your beautiful photographs, I missed now, Devizes, Salisbury, Lacock, and Bournemouth… Thank you, with my love, nia
